The EU in brief

The EU has 27 member states. Cooperation between the countries is largely based on facilitating the free movement of goods, persons, services and capital within the EU, without customs duties or other obstacles. The EU countries also cooperate in other areas such as the environment, agriculture, reception of refugees and fighting organised crime.
